UK Extends Grace Period for eVisa Transition to March 2025

The UK government is modernizing its immigration system by replacing physical immigration documents with a digital eVisa system. To ease the transition, the grace period for adopting eVisas has been extended until March 31, 2025. This move aims to enhance it’s security, streamline processes, and provide a more and greater convenience for travelers and visa holders.
The Transition to eVisas
The eVisa system is designed to replace traditional Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) and biometric residence cards (BRCs). It allows visa holders to prove their immigration status digitally, eliminating the risks of loss, theft, or tampering associated with physical documents.

What This Means for Visa Holders

If your BRP or BRC expires on or after December 31, 2024, you can still use it to travel to the UK until March 31, 2025. However, switching to an eVisa early is recommended to prevent any disruptions.

Who Needs to Act?

Visa holders who haven’t transitioned to eVisas should act promptly, particularly:
Parents managing BRPs for children.
Individuals with indefinite leave to remain using ink stamps or vignettes. These individuals can also apply for a No Time Limit (NTL) eVisa for added convenience.
